Where is our tax money going?

Florida has seen its share of bad budgeting and poor decision making. Many industries have been affected including teachers from all counties in the state of Florida. Unfortunately, there are issues that the public does not know about and Florida’s Revolving Door is the organization that will help inform Floridians.

A program known as Pre-Trial Institute (PTI), which is a government backed program, is taking millions of dollars from the county budgets and releasing new arrests and career criminals. The program was designed to help reduce jail population, release the indigent, minor crimes, and first time offenders. PTI has abused the laws that were put in place and is currently accepting about 75% of the defendants that go to first appearance hearing. This means that they are releasing defendants that don’t qualify for the program and using tax dollars to pay for all their expenses. The program has grown throughout the years and has spent millions of tax dollars.

The most important side to this growing problem and one that we stand strong for is public safety. PTI does not monitor the defendants and does not ensure their return to court. What does the program do? Absolutely nothing. PTI does not go and look for the defendants if he or she fails to appear and they are not held responsible. The judges continue to approve the programs and in some cases recommend the program. We are letting these judges play with tax dollars and make our streets more dangerous.

What can be done?

Florida’s Revolving Door has a mission. A mission that can not be completed by our organization alone. We need the support of our state and county officials, but most importantly the support of the residents in all Florida counties. We are currently setting up meetings with local officials. We are trying to make sure that PTI is doing what they are supposed to be doing instead of going against laws that no one enforces. Start making complaints and make lets make some changes.
